Register to Vote

Who May Register to Vote?

You may register to vote if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a United States citizen
  • You are a resident of California
  • You are at least 18 years of age (or will be by the date of the next election)
  • You are not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony
  • You have not been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and vote

What You Will Need:

Be sure to have the following information on hand when registering to vote online:

  • Your California driver license or California identification card number,

  • The last four digits of your social security number, and

  • Your date of birth.

Your information will be provided to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to retrieve a copy of your DMV signature.

If you do not have a California driver license or California identification card, you can still use this method to apply to register to vote by completing the online interview by 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the 15th calendar day before an election

Pre-Register to Vote

If you are 16 or 17 years old, you can use the online registration application to pre-register to vote. Click the "Vote California" Bear Flag image link above to pre-register.  CLICK HERE

Re-Registering to Vote?

You need to re-register to vote when:

  • You move

  • You change your name

  • You change your political party affiliation

Registration Deadline:

The deadline to register or re-register to vote for any election is 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the 15th calendar day before that election
